            Encinitas Ford has a very rich and interesting history.  Two brothers started the dealership the mid 1960’s.  They chose the Coast Highway as their location and named the dealership after themselves, Petersen Ford.  Encinitas at the time was a small agricultural community and when the Petersen’s moved the dealership out to its present location in 1966, Encinitas Boulevard was only a narrow dirt road. 

            In the spring of 1968 Wayne Gossett purchased Petersen Ford.  He surprisingly renamed the dealership after himself, Wayne Gossett Ford. Wayne Gossett owned and ran the dealership for approximately 8 years and then sold it to Red and Lynnie Richie.  The Richies decided to call their dealership by its present name, Encinitas Ford.  Mark S. Wheeler bought into the business in 1988 becoming Red’s partner and Vice president and General Manager. 

            The Richies sold the dealership to Mark Wheeler near the end of 1993 with a minority partnership to Glen Friedman.  Mark currently acts as the President and General Manager of the dealership and Glen Friedman serves as the Vice President and Used Car Manager. 

            Mark Wheeler graduated from the University of Arizona in 1978.  He lives in Encinitas with his wife of 29 years, Pam Wheeler.  Pam and all three of their children have worked at the dealership in different capacities over the years. 

            Encinitas Ford currently employs approximately 100 forward-looking individuals.   Many of our employees have been with the company for over 8 years.  We pride ourselves on our award winning customer service and we work together from the top down as a family.
