Ford Motor Company Swept the 2010 North American Car and Truck Awards At the Detroit Auto Show On January 11, 2010, at the Detroit Auto Show the Ford Fusion Hybrid was named the car of the year and the Ford Transit Connect was named the truck of the year. This is only the 3rd time in the 17-year history of this award that a single automaker has claimed both titles. “A couple of years ago—a number of years ago—we said we wanted to get back into the car business and we wanted to do it with vehicles that had great quality, great fuel efficiency, technology and safety,” said Mark Fields, president of the Americas for Ford. Ford is the only automaker that did not file for bankruptcy last year or receive any of the $120 billion of the bailout money the U.S. government spent in the hopes of keeping the American Auto industry alive. These awards follow the recent recognition by Motor Trend Magazine who just recently named the Ford Fusion it’s pick for its prestigious Car of the Year award. It bested 23 contenders... including the Toyota Camry, the Honda Accord, the BMW 7 Series and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class! This puts the Fusion among America’s top 10-selling vehicles and the NUMBER ONE selling domestic car. Our Ford Fusion is America’s most fuel-efficient midsize sedan for both hybrid and conventional gasoline models. The Fusion Hybrid with an EPA estimated 41 mpg rating in the city and 36 mpg on the highway tops the Toyota Camry Hybrid by 8 mpg and has higher quality than the Honda Accord or Camry.
